The name Toledo Edison first appeared in 1912 when various rail and electricity predecessors, including Toledo Railways &amp; Light Co, merged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company was officially established in 1921. Acquiring the region\u2019s railway and trolley lines allowed Toledo Edison to cover a large area early on and deliver power to more rural regions. The company continued to buy up local utility providers and steadily expanded from the 1920s through the 20th century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Acme Power Station generated the majority of Toledo Edison\u2019s power into the 1950s. Illustrating their adaptability, they began generating electricity with nuclear power, culminating in the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant in Oak Harbor in 1977. Toledo Edison (formerly NYSE: TED) was publicly traded until 1986 when it merged with <a href=\"https:\/\/electricityplans.com\/ohio\/utilities\/the-illuminating-company\/\">The Illuminating Company<\/a> to form Centerior Energy.
