That means you have a choice in where you buy your electricity supply. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can get your electricity supply from West Penn Power. Or you can choose an electric generation supplier (EGS) that&#8217;s been licensed by the state of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter who who you buy power from, West Penn Power remains your utility company. You may also call them at 888-544-4877.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"about-west-penn-power\">About West Penn Power<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Serving nearly 740,000 customers across 24 central and southwest Pennsylvania counties, West Penn Power celebrated a century of supplying power to homes and businesses in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>West Penn Power formed when town-level electric providers across Uniontown, Greensburg, Jeanette, Kittanning, Butler and Connellsville consolidated in 1916. Its growth and development mirrored the advancements introduced over the decades: At one point, West Penn Power both powered and sold home appliances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FirstEnergy acquired West Penn Power in 2011, folding the company into their network of subsidiaries across Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Maryland. In total, FirstEnergy delivers power to about six million customers and oversees about 269,000 miles of distribution lines and 24,000 miles of transmission lines.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2023-first-energy-consolidation\"><strong>2023 First Energy Consolidation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>In December 2023, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PaPUC) approved FirstEnergy\u2019s proposed consolidation of multiple Pennsylvania electric distributors. This move rolled Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power into a single entity devoted to providing safe, affordable and reliable electricity to about two million customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new, distribution-only provider is called FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company (FE PA). However, each subsidiary continues to operate under its local and more familiar brand name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, FirstEnergy intends to shift West Penn Power\u2019s transmission assets to the Keystone Appalachian Transmission Company (KATCo). This split allows FE PA to exclusively focus on power delivery without allocating funds or time for grid updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For West Penn Power customers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consolidation is expected to result in long-term cost savings and a more efficient customer service experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Along with lower rates, FirstEnergy plans to increase its budget for bill assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Along with retaining its name, West Penn Power also plans to keep its rates and terms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The larger presence means FE PA will likely have an easier time obtaining funds for preserving or upgrading its infrastructure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>West Penn Power serves 720,000 customers in Pennsylvania.
