Illinois Electricity Plans

Why ElectricityPlans.com?

We make electricity shopping simple and honest

We show plans from 40+ providers side by side, with no hidden agendas. We are not affiliated with any utility or electricity provider.

Rates change constantly. Our plan data refreshes every day so you’re always comparing current prices, not yesterday’s offers.

Comparing plans costs you nothing. We’re compensated by providers only when you enroll — and that never changes your plan price.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know

Who is ElectricityPlans.com?

ElectricityPlans.com is a Texas-based independent electricity marketplace that helps individuals, families, and businesses compare and enroll in energy plans. We provide structured plan information and comparison tools for customers in deregulated markets including Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. We are not affiliated with any utility or provider — 100% independent.

I don’t see my electricity supplier. Why not?

We work with a select list of licensed providers that fit our editorial guidelines — including brand reputation, management, and uniqueness of offer. We bring on new providers regularly. If you don’t see yours, you can compare all providers at the Texas state-sponsored shopping website, PowerToChoose.org.

Why is the advertised rate different from my bill?

Texas providers are required to disclose rates at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh. They advertise the tier that looks best — but that may not be your usage level. Bill credits, tiered pricing, and base charges mean the rate you see often only applies at one specific usage point. Our BillSmart tools show your real estimated bill.

What is an Electricity Facts Label (EFL)?

The EFL is a standardized disclosure document all Texas electricity providers must provide. It shows pricing at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh, contract length, early termination fees, and other key terms. We pull EFL data for every plan we list so you can compare plans on a level playing field.

Why should I trust ElectricityPlans.com?

Because we make electricity shopping easier, not more confusing. Our goal isn’t to push a specific plan — it’s to help you choose one that actually fits your home or business. We review and standardize supplier information so you can compare plans without gimmicks or hidden surprises. We’ve been doing that since 2017.

How does ElectricityPlans.com make money?

We earn compensation from the electricity provider you select when you enroll through our platform. You never pay a fee to use our site, and the fee we receive doesn’t change the price of your plan. Providers cannot pay to be featured on our site.

Will switching affect my power reliability?

No. In Texas, your local utility (like Oncor or CenterPoint) still delivers your electricity through the same lines — nothing changes about how power reaches your home. Switching providers only changes who bills you for electricity supply. There is no interruption to your service when you switch.

How long does switching electricity take?

Enrolling in a new Texas electricity plan typically takes about 5 minutes online. Once you enroll, the switch usually takes effect on your next meter read date — typically within 14–21 days. You’ll receive a confirmation from your new provider with full details on your start date.
