Common Questions
Everything you need to know:
ElectricityPlans.com is a Texas-based independent electricity marketplace that helps individuals, families, and businesses compare and enroll in energy plans. We provide structured plan information and comparison tools for customers in deregulated markets including Connecticut, Ohio and Pennsylvania. We are not owned by or affiliated with any utility or provider.
We work with a select list of licensed providers that fit our editorial guidelines, including brand reputation, management, and uniqueness of offer. We bring on new providers regularly. If you don’t see yours, you can compare all providers using the state-sponsored shopping site in your area.
Electricity deregulation, also known as electricity choice, is available in 15+ states, including Texas, Connecticut, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
You must be in Texas. Texas providers are required to disclose rates at 500, 1,000, and 2,000 kWh. They advertise the tier that looks best, but that may not be your usage level. Bill credits, tiered pricing, and base charges mean the rate you see often only applies at one specific usage point. Our BillSmart™ tools show your real estimated bill.
Because we make electricity shopping easier, not more confusing. Our goal isn’t to push a specific plan, it’s to help you choose one that actually fits your home or business. We review and standardize supplier information so you can compare plans without gimmicks or hidden surprises. We’ve been doing that since 2017.
We earn compensation from the electricity provider you select when you enroll through our platform. You never a fee or credit card needed to use our site. And the fee we receive doesn’t change the price of your plan (in some cases we’ve negotiated rates lower than what you’ll find on the provider’s site!) Advertisers can not pay to be featured on our website.
No. In Texas, switching providers only changes who bills you for electricity supply. In other states, your electricity provider is a line item on your utility bill. In all cases, there’s no interruption to your service or change in power reliability when you switch.
Enrolling in a new electricity plan typically takes about 10 minutes online. In Texas, your switch happens within 24 hours, unless you pick a specific start date. In Ohio, Pennsylvania or Connecticut, switching can take 1-2 billing cycles to take effect.
