• Shop based on usage. Shop based on your average electricity usage vs. 500/1000/2000 kWh. This will give you the most accurate view.
• Focus on fixed. Basic fixed rate electricity plans are best for just about everyone. Unless you know your usage is a good fit for a bill credit or tiered rate plan, avoid these options.
• Review the details. Check the plan details section where we highlight key elements like whether there’s a monthly base charge or a bill credit for ebill/auto-pay.
• Check the ETF. For a one year contract, most Early Termination Fees are $150. Some electricity companies offer a variable termination fee of $15-$20 per month remaining in the contract.
• Review their flexibility. Is there a satisfaction guarantee? Some companies let you change plans or switch away with no ETF if you find a better rate.
