    Think Energy Electricity Plans

Think Energy has two basic fixed rate 100% renewable energy plan types. One is a standard fixed rate, the other requires a smart thermostat.

Think Clean: Basic fixed rate electricity plan with a base charge of $4.95/month. Standard fixed rate offer, but longer contract terms require autopay and ebill.

Think Clean with Smart Thermostat Connected: Basic fixed rate plan with $10 in bill credits monthly with a connected smart thermostat. The Think Smart program requires a pre-existing Ecobee, Honeywell or Resideo thermostat and you must participate in usage reduction events when asked to do so. You can opt-out of any thermostat adjustments but if you skip 2+ in a month, you’ll lose that bill credit. The program also promises to use their technology to make small adjustments throughout the day to optimize your energy consumption.

    Common Complaints

Complaints primarily are on the fine print around the promised $100 sign-up bonuses (currently included in all plans and paid out after 6 billing cycles, but also requiring on-time payments and a minimum of 1800 kWh used in the 6 month period). Other complaints reference poor customer service and switching service without consent (slamming). Some of these complaints may be related to miscommunication from field representatives (door to door sales agents) and multi-level marketing agents.

How to Compare Electricity Plans in Texas

Comparing electricity plans in Texas is easy when you use the right tools. Like ElectricityPlans.com, where our BillSmart™ Low Bill Finder, BillSmart Calculator, BillSmart Plan Score and CostCurve™ show you what you’ll pay before you sign up. The advertised rate at 1000 kWh is not the rate you’ll actually pay. It’s important to shop by usage, to see your effective rate. Only than can you be sure that a plan is right for you.

Here are the basic steps to compare electricity plans:

    1. Enter your zip code on a comparison shopping site like ElectricityPlans.com
    2. Enter your average usage to see plans based on effective rate.
    3. Select up to three plans to compare side by side
    4. Check the effective rate and estimated bills to find the cheapest rate for your home.
    5. Click or call to enroll.

We recommend basic fixed rate electricity plans as the best choice for most consumers.

Pro Tip: Moving in to a new home? Estimate your annual usage based on 6.48 kWh/square foot, which is the average power usage for Texas homes. Then divide by 12 to get your monthly average. Check our move center for more information.
