Is Champion Energy Free Weekends Worth It?
If you want to try a free power plan for electricity, Champion Energy Free Weekends is worth it.
With Champion’s plans it doesn’t matter if you get Free Weekends or their fixed rate plan. If you use power just like “most consumers,” 70% during the week and 30% during weekends, your average price is virtually the same under either plan. That means that your risk of trying a free electricity plan with Champion Energy is low. Best case scenario, you shift your electricity usage and pay less than the average price. And worst case scenario? You use power just like you always do, and end up paying the same average price as if you bought their fixed price plan.
The one downside on this plan is that only energy is free, not delivery. But this means Champion isn’t loading that cost into your weekday electricity rate. Check out those plans where you get truly free including delivery. You’ll see that the weekday price is very high to collect all the fees owed to the local utility company.
As with all other free weekends plan, Champion Energy Free Weekends plan is the perfect match for:
- Singles or couples with limited laundry/dishes.
- Families with older kids that can follow rules about electricity usage.
- Traveling professionals who are away all week.

Champion Energy Free Nights (Discontinued Plan)
Champion Energy Free Nights was discontinued in 2020. We loved Champion Energy’s free nights plan because it was fair and balanced, just like their Free Weekends plan.
In its place, we recommend Atlantex Energy’s Free Nights Electricity plan. This plan offers free electricity every night for 12 hours. The average rate assumes you use 40% of your power at night when it’s free. And it’s reasonably priced for daytime usage.
