TaraEnergy upsells consumers on something called GoodBundle. They don’t publish the pricing information on their website, so we went digging. For $9.99/month additional charge on your bill, you’ll get a discount of 0.3¢/kWh on your energy plan, plus 10% off home water filters. Or pay $19.99/month additional fee and get a discount of 0.5¢/kWh on your energy plan, 10% off home water filters, and a waiver for any Just Energy disconnection notice fee. Want to pay even more? You can pay $29.99/month for a full penny discount on your energy plan, and they’ll waive late fees and disconnection charges. (Note: You’ll still get disconnected if you don’t pay your bill, you’ll just get reimbursed the $25 disconnection notice fee.)
So the average consumer using 1000 kWh/month would pay Tara Energy nearly an additional penny (0.9¢/kWh) to get a .3¢ discount? That’s still you paying more money every month.
Full stop, don’t sign up for the Tara Energy GoodBundle. It’s good for no one, other than the company’s bottom line.
Tara Energy JustGreen charges a $9.99 monthly charge for 100% green energy for your home. When you purchase JustGreen, Tara Energy will purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) on your behalf, to back your energy with renewable power like wind, solar and hydro.
When you pay $9.99/month for JustGreen, that adds 0.9¢/kWh to your average price per kWh, assuming 1000 kWh a month.
You’re better off choosing a low cost provider that includes 100% renewable energy in their plans at no additional charge. Consider Rhythm Energy or Gexa Energy as more affordable options that include 100% renewable energy.
