What the advertised rate means: Texas electricity providers are required to disclose rates at three usage levels, 500, 1000 and 2000. Most electricity companies display advertised rates at 1000 kWh. And plans are created to look good at that specific usage level.
Why your bill is usually different: Bill credits, tiered pricing, monthly fees and minimum use charges mean the price you see applies just to that exact level of usage. Use slightly more or less than 1000 kWh and you could pay a very different effective rate.
